My name is Greg Couzens and I will be your Program Director for your Southern African experience.
I am 58 years old local native to Cape Town, born, schooled and still living in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I am married to Kim who also happens to be a guide and actually guided for OAT. We have 4 children, 2 living it Italy and 3 grandchildren also in Italy.
I have been in the tourism industry for the past 22 years and I am still loving it. I am also a military veteran, having the honour to have served in the South African Defence Force in the early 1980's.
What I really enjoy about working for OAT is the clients that OAT attracts, clients who are very interested in the country, clients who are keen not only to learn, but also keen to engage with locals. The fact that OAT does visits that the normal visitor does not do and encourages us to be open and courageous, take risks, veer off the itinerary and bring up controversial subjects.
I have observed a lot of curious behaviour from people who visit our beautiful country based on their own experiences of living in "first world" countries or in non African countries. TIA - "THIS IS AFRICA" (our extremely unofficial tag line.)
Perfectionists, loud, colourful, noisy, courageous, rambunctious, musical, gritty, big-hearted, warm, passionate and wild perhaps, but I wouldn't describe us as a nation of perfectionists - and I love this about us. Enjoy our cultures (wildly different to your own) without judgment, and you'll leave with a fever in your heart for our country that will have you dreaming of coming back.
